My first mission was simple: start dating my ex-boyfriend’s boss. And yes, I succeeded. Within two weeks, he was all over me.
The man was always calling, always texting, always available. Too available in fact. He said he was captivated by my beauty.
I started to wonder if I had made the wrong decision dating him just to get back at my ex. But I played along anyway.
“Introduce me to your employees,” I said one night while we were eating out. My plan was to announce my presence to my ex-boyfriend right away, without a single doubt.
The company is his inheritance, so he can do whatever he wants with it, including firing an employee because of his girlfriend.
He hesitated, then said he never introduced women to his workers. “I don’t bring my staff into my private life. The women I’ve dated…”
He stopped abruptly, realizing how much he had just exposed. I wasn’t even interested in that part. All I wanted was to make my move look natural, until my ex is fired. Then, that’s the end of the relationship.
But, I played along and seemed to be shocked he had dated not one women but ‘women…’ “So, it’s not only me, huh?” I acted hurt, grabbed my bag, and began to walk out.
He ran after me, panicked. “No, babe, it’s not what you think. That was in the past. But now I’ve found you, I’ve changed. You changed me.” He kept going with the usual blah-blah-blah just to convince me. Smooth talking to make me believe I’m the only one in his life, but not like I care anyway.
I gave him one condition. “If you want me to trust you, then introduce me to your employees. Let everyone know I’m yours. I need to mark my territory.”
He took a deep breath and finally said, “Fine. If that’s what it takes, then so be it.”
The next morning, he came to pick me up. I dressed to kill.
On the way, I asked if all his employees would be present, and he assured me they would. I buckled up. It was going to be a sweet day.
The moment we walked in, I saw him… his face was the first I spotted. My ex.
His eyes froze when they met mine. I noticed the way his body stiffened too. Slowly, deliberately, I slipped my hand into his boss’s arm and rested my head on his shoulder.
“Babe,” I said softly, pretending to be uneasy. “I don’t feel comfortable anymore. Someone I just saw here who works for you is making me so uncomfortable.”
“Who?” my boyfriend asked.
I pointed directly at my ex, who was still standing in shock.
“He’s my ex. He broke me apart, and seeing him again feels like reopening an old wound. After two years of betrayal, it still hurts. My heart is shattering all over again.”
Tears brimmed in my eyes, and then I truly cried; because I remembered the cruel way he once described me to his mother, the fake prophecy they plotted together, and the insult of him breaking up with me over my fashion sense after I had stood by him in his broke days.
“What do you want me to do then?” his boss, my boyfriend, asked gently. “I’ll tell him to avoid you whenever you come around. Will that be enough?”
I shook my head. “No. I want him fired. I can’t bear to see him anywhere near you. I want him removed as your assistant.”
And with that, I turned to leave, my second mission only just beginning.
